How do we live wisely and well in this rapidly changing landscape of economic, environmental and social ferment and change? Our old ways of being and knowing seem to be falling away and new ways, not yet arisen.
We invite you to join us in exploring intuitive and interactive ways to center and come to balance in this new time. We will use ancient technologies of transformational voice and drama to help access and activate our capacities as empowered change-makers.
Insight creates wider options - we can choose to be active, not reactive players. Using techniques of dramatic enactment we will explore our common concerns and shift them into images for dialogue and discovery.
Using our voices in the power of the circle, we will weave new stories that lead us into the future.
Come, bring your voices, stories, and creative energies to sing, move, sound and celebrate our lives together. No experience in acting or sounding is necessary.

I have a wonderful opportunity to take part in a potentially important act of service and I need your help. I've been invited to join a research delegation for healthcare professionals, traveling to Cuba March 14 -28 under the auspices of the Witness for Peace organization.
My request is two-fold: 1) I’m asking for your sponsorship in helping me to cover the expenses for this trip and 2) I would like you to participate with me by sharing questions you may have about the healthcare system in Cuba which might give me a framework for my own inquiry.
Some of you know me as a singer and poet as well as a psychotherapist, and I will take all these hats on this journey, investigating not only how the Cuban universal medical care system compares with our own in its treatment of mental illness, but what kinds of alternative treatments they have developed which might be of use to us as our own healthcare system in the U.S. undergoes much needed restructuring.
The focus of this trip is for full-time healthcare professionals to research Cuba's urban and rural health and social service systems, meeting with other professionals, families, elected officials, neighborhood committees and visiting clinics and hospitals. While this trip calls upon me in my professional role as a psychotherapist and educator, my background in the arts and social justice work gives me a special lens with which to witness how, in a culture which honors its poets and musicians, Cuban clinicians use the arts in their healing practices. Delegates have a mandate to share our findings on our return and I will certainly do that with every means possible to me. To that end, I also invite you to consider ways in which I might make a presentation in your community about my findings. I see this delegation as a perfect opportunity for me to deepen my understanding of therapeutic practice and also give something back to society.
As you know, Cuba is still under embargo and travel there is extremely limited. For all the constraints this imposes upon their society, Cuba has developed a universal health care system at least on a par with our own, and has trained doctors and medical professionals to work in service programs all over the world. At a time when our own country is undergoing radical transformation and there is a possibility of more open communication between Cuba and the United States, we have much to learn from the Cuban models of healthcare. In a broader context, the work of this delegation might have some effect on structuring more effective and egalitarian healthcare in this country.
Witness for Peace, the sponsoring group, is a politically independent grassroots non-profit organization committed to nonviolence, and to the advancement of just policies and human rights. Since 1983 they have worked to support peace, justice and sustainable economies in Latin America and the Caribbean by changing US policies and corporate practices that contribute to poverty and oppression. This delegation is part of WFC's work to establish a cross-border network for the flow of information between educators, healthcare professionals, advocates and activists.
The cost of my trip includes $2,000 for basic accommodations and ground transportation for ten days in Cuba. Since travel to Cuba from the continental United States is still prohibited, we are flying out of Cancun, Mexico and are responsible for that leg of the trip and ancillary expenses - an estimate of $700 for airfare and related fees. In addition I need to cover some of the expense of my time lost from work.
Because this is more than I can afford on my own I am requesting sponsorship to bring this opportunity to reality for me. Witness for Peace has suggested a donation of $100 or more but I understand that not everyone can do that. Please know that whatever you offer will be deeply appreciated, including your prayers and good wishes for my journey. In a sense, we are sound. We are energetic frequencies as dense as bone and as subtle as spirit. The sounds we make, the sounds we are, affect us at every level of our being: from the resonance of our molecular structure to our thoughts and emotions and our sense of self and soul. Working with sound is an ancient technology, now coming into exciting potential in modern science.
Our voices are instruments of great subtly and power, capable of changing the balance of energies in our own bodies and in our relationship with others. We are constantly tuning ourselves through the instrument of our voices. Sighs relax us and our cries of ecstasy and sorrow align our inner feelings with the outer world.
In this workshop, we will use the alchemy of group resonance to come to heightened awareness of the vibrant power of our own voices. In the safety of the sound circle, we will explore our capacity, beyond language, to enter into that luminous realm of spontaneous sounding. Old stories of wounding can be transformed into our present experience of radiant creativity, energy, and joy.
Our work will be grounded in the theory of the psychobiological aspects of sound. However, the main focus of our time together will be on our spontaneous experience of sound, within ourselves and in the group. We will work and we will play with sound and silence, movement, singing, and meditation. Bring your voice, your stories, your willingness to listen in and to sound out.
Molly Scott is a licensed psychotherapist, singer, poet, and educator who has presented her work with psychology and sound in Europe, North America, and Asia. Her early career in television, theater, and film led her to be active as a performer and composer in the social justice and peace movements. A pioneer in the field of sound therapy and the creator of the Deep Story treatment for trauma, Dr. Scott directs the Creative Resonance Training Institute, teaches at Antioch New England Graduate School, and maintains a therapy practice in Western Massachusetts. Her recordings include “We Are All One Planet,” “Honor the Earth,” and “Sound of Light,” which was recorded in the chapel at Rowe. Molly has been offering workshops here since 1977 and is one of our dearest, oldest, and smartest friends.

August 19-22, 2005 - Flow - Sound~Silence~Story~Song
A Creative Resonance Training Retreat in Labyrinth and Stone Circle led by Dr. Molly Scott with special guests, Dr. Bethe Hagens, Anne Skillings, & Mahka, the horse in Charlemont, MA, USA.
This four day intensive is designed to provide Creative Resonance body/mind/spirit experience for people who wish to interact with the energetic flow in life systems with enhanced empathy and awareness.
The concentration of this gathering at the full moon will be on FLOW: feeling and moving within high frequency life current, invoking it with our breath, bodies, and sounding voices. In sound and silence we will work within the ancient geometric forms of the labyrinth and stone circle land temples formulated to enhance earth resonance.

- With Bethe Hagens, PHD, cultural anthropologist, artist and musician, we will explore and use Bullroarers and Sacred Spinners, potent instruments found all over the world, researched and recreated by her for entrained group trance experience.
- With Anne Skillings, MS. educator and equine learning specialist, we will invite horses into our circle, interacting with the intelligent awareness of these intuitive creatures and learning more about our common natures.
- The retreat will be held in a lovely, private forest setting. We will hold each day’s beginning and end in meditation with song, silence, and the resonance of sounding bowls. Acknowledging our role as change makers in these troubled times, we will hold the intention that our work and play contribute to the well being of others. This is a certified CRI training appropriate for therapists, body workers, teachers, health, and human service professionals.
